Blanchard,
Idaho is a small-unincorporated town situated in a scenic
area appropriately named Spirit Valley. It is located in
Bonner County, about 30 air-miles northeast of

Spokane,
Washington and about one and one-half miles east of the
Washington-Idaho state line. Blanchard is in the heart of
big game country, a fishing haven, and a stopover flyway
point for wild geese and eagles. It is a valley as rich in
natural resources as it is in history. Beautiful mountains,
forest and farmland surround us. Pioneers first homesteaded
and farmed these lands in 1883. In the early years people
made their living at the sawmills or in the woods as
lumberjacks. At one time there was a very successful ice
operation business on Blanchard Lake and the railroad came
through the center of town. Unfortunately, the sawmill and
ice businesses are long gone. The railroad line that put
Blanchard on the map was taken out about 1975. But the
"little town that thought it could" is still "proving it
CAN" with many activities and busy citizens bringing new
opportunities and improvements to the area, as you will
discover as you explore this website.
